July 7th - Dolphin Stranding on Sullivan's Island

Lauren Rust

*Warning - Graphic

In the early evening of July 7th, our team received a call about a deceased dolphin near Station 13 on Sullivan's Island.

Nicole was able to respond to the animal, which was in a moderate stage of decomposition and was missing its peduncle and fluke due to scavenging. Basic measurements and samples were collected before the animal was buried on site with help from Sullivan's Island Beach Police.

Unfortunately, a cause of death is unknown due to the state of the carcass.
