March 31st - Dolphin Stranding in the Folly River

Writer: Nicole PrincipeNicole Principe

This bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) was found and reported by College of Charleston graduate student, Colin Perkins-Taylor, while conducting a drone survey in the Folly River on March 31st.

Although this animal was fairly decomposed, our team members still headed out with help from Charleston Outdoor Adventures to collect as many samples as possible.

Unfortunately due to decomposition, no significant findings were noted. But this was determined to be a fully grown adult male. Samples were collected and archived at the NOAA NOS Laboratory.
